Giving Back

Working together to build resilient communities

Long before the term “corporate social responsibility” arrived on the scene, we were doing it. Our culture of giving back to the local community began the day our firm opened its doors, more than 50 years ago.

Today, we continue to foster this value—investing in our communities through board service, volunteerism, sponsorships, donations and pro bono legal services. Our commitment to philanthropy goes beyond words and dollars. We empower our employees to volunteer their time and talents in a way that is meaningful to them. From hosting Karma Projects—hands-on volunteer opportunities—to helping employees identify nonprofit and civic board positions that fit their passions, together we give back to make our communities stronger.

Sharing our resources and talents through pro bono counsel

Our culture of giving back means that each one of us shares a commitment to investing in our communities. Through our pro bono work, Brownstein attorneys have touched the lives of myriad individuals and organizations who could not otherwise afford high quality legal representation. We provide advice and counsel to more than 70 nonprofit partners in our communities. We participate in monthly low-income legal clinics. We advocate for abused and neglected children and victims of domestic violence. We fight to keep low-income children in schools. And we participate in large public interest and civil rights litigation matters with the potential to impact thousands. In each of these situations, we dedicate our resources and talents to improve the lives of all.

Community initiatives

Hands-on volunteerism is a cornerstone of Brownstein’s commitment to making a positive impact on the community. Throughout the year, our employees participate in Karma Projects, designed to give our employees, clients, family and friends an opportunity to give back to the communities where we work and live. Karma Committees in each of our offices help plan and lead these “done-in-a-day” volunteer projects and drives to support local nonprofits. Prior projects across the firm include collecting food and school supplies, building community gardens, painting an apartment for a family transitioning out of homelessness, making and delivering valentines to kids in the hospital and adopting families for the holidays.
